The Bellevue Historical Society is partnering with the Bellevue Public Library to present a program on "Caring for Family Heirlooms" on Thursday, April 6, at 6:00 in the meeting room of the Bellevue Public Library.
AmeriCorps volunteer Emily Albert and Annette Wells from the Maritime Museum in Sandusky will educate us on how best to store and preserve items that may need extra care so that they will be in good condition for future generations to enjoy.

Please join us on Thursday, April 6 at 6:00 in the Bellevue Public Library's meeting room for some tips on how best to preserve your treasured family heirlooms.

No reservations necessary, just come as you are and enjoy learning the proper techniques of preserving.

Elizabeth Kile Retires

After over twenty-five years on the Board of Directors of The Bellevue Historical Society, Elizabeth Kile announced that she would not be entering her name for reelection at the annual meeting in March.  Elizabeth has been a mainstay of the organization and she will be very much missed.  However, she still plans to be an active member.  She will continue to chair the committee for the Sunflower Sale in July and her shop, The Golden Acorn, on South West Street will still sell items for the Society, including Bill Oddo's books.

Last spring, the Bellevue Historical Society was informed of a rare opportunity to raise funds for the Tremont House Project.  An anonymous donor, through the Sandusky Country Communities Foundation, offered to match up to the $50,000 for the Project if it could be raised by December 31, 2015
As most of you know, the Society appealed to the community for help and the support was outstanding.  By December 31st, almost $56,000 had been raised through individual and business donations, and events sponsored by the Society.
The majority of the fund raised came from loyal members, local businesses and others interested in seeing the Tremont House restored to its original grandeur.  Ultimately, it will house the treasures which tell the store of our community's history. Among the Society's major money making events were the sunflower sale in July, A Taste of Tremont in September, The Gingerbread House Contest in December, the Long Way Home Family Restaurant Day (Bellevue) in December, the bike raffle and the sales of Bill Oddo's books. Many thanks to everyone who donated, attended our events, purchased books, or helped in any way to make this venture a success.

The Bellevue Historical Society has received exciting news!  The Sandusky County Communities Foundation has issued us a challenge grant that will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000 for our capital campaign to restore the Tremont House located at the corner of East Main St and N. West St. (housing Leonard's Pharmacy for many years).
Sandusky County Communities Foundation Executive Director Cate Knipp stated that a donor to the foundation expressed an interest in the restoration of the Tremont House.  The Sandusky County Communities Foundation is challenging our historical society to raise $50,000 by December 15, 2015.
We need you to help us raise $50,000 to meet this challenge!  Please send your donation, payable to the Bellevue Historical Society, P. O. Box 304, Bellevue, OH 44811.  All donations are tax deductible.  The Bellevue Historical Society is a registered 501 (c) 3 organization.

The historical significance of The Tremont House, and recognition that it is an architectural treasure, has been cast - not in stone, but in bronze - on an Ohio Historical Marker.  The Marker was acquired thanks to a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation through the Ohio History Connection (formerly the Ohio Historical Society).  It will be installed on the North West Street side of the building.
